Rye Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Spirit
Cody Road Rye Whiskey
Ingredients
2 tbsp olive oil
2 large sweet onions minced or pureed in blender
3 garlic cloves minced or processed
2 tbsp cumin
2 tbsp coriander seed processed
2 cups dark brown sugar
2 cups cider vinegar
1 cup Cody Road Rye
12 oz Spicy Rye Mustard [or 1 ½ cup of Dijon Mustard]
Salt as needed
Directions
1
Sweat the onion and garlic in the olive oil.
Add the cumin and coriander and let that bloom about a minute.
Add the brown sugar and let that melt.
Stir in the vinegar and cook down for 10 minutes.
Take the sauce off the stove and add the Cody Road Rye.
Carefully reduce the mixture over medium low heat for another 10 minutes.
Add the mustard.
HERE’s where it gets dicey…add more brown sugar and salt until you like the flavor you’ve got.
Chill this in fridge and use it on everything! Makes a great gift.
This is a South Carolina BBQ sauce….there is NO tomato.
