Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients

3 quarts plus 1 cup heavy cream
3 quarts plus 1 cup half and half
5 ½ cups sugar
½ cup vanilla
Directions

Melt the sugar in the half and half and cool.

Add the heavy cream and vanilla and chill overnight.

Fill the drum of an ice cream freezer 3/4 full and freeze.

Pack in ice or in the freezer until firm.

Makes 2 gallons.
